Photoelectric Sensor Types and Installation
Sensor Types
First, there are three main types of photoelectric sensors. Your FOX IV representative can assist in selecting the correct sensor for your application. Sensor types are:
- Diffused Reflective Sensor – Used for standard corrugated box applications.
- Retro-reflective Sensor – Used typically for pallet applications or longer ranges.
- Through Beam Sensor – Used when the product has a reflective, shiny, or irregular surface.
Installation
Follow these steps to install the sensor once the correct sensor for the application is chosen.
- Locate a secure and stable place on the production line to mount the photocell mounting bracket.
- The most common position to mount the bracket is upstream from and as close as possible to the labeling system. This will give you the most flexibility for adjustments.
- he easiest sensor setting is “Light On-LO” mode. In this mode, the LPA will apply the label by triggering off of the leading edge of the product while in front of the sensor.
- To position your label on the product, set the application delay value in the FOX IV LPA Setup Menu or move the sensor position left or right for the same adjustment.
NOTE:
All the sensors listed above are adjusted using the same method. Also make sure you adjust the sensitivity setting on the photoelectric sensor for the distance from the sensor to the product, making sure you are not sensing any other object past the initial product.
